Thigh lift: practical information

A thigh lift, like thigh liposuction, is a surgical procedure performed on the thighs. The aim of this plastic surgery procedure is to reshape the inner and outer thighs by removing excess skin. The ultimate goal is to restore curvature to this part of the body.

Thigh lifts are sometimes combined with liposuction to remove localized fatty deposits. These two cosmetic surgery procedures combine to treat both skin and fat components. However, thigh cruroplasty and liposuction can also be performed independently.

The aim of a leg lift, and particularly a thigh lift, is to achieve a lasting and effective correction of a person's shape and silhouette. After undergoing cosmetic thigh surgery, results are visible very quickly, but it takes around six months, once the swelling has subsided, to achieve a definitive shape. After a thigh lift, scars become virtually invisible after 10 to 12 months.

Before the operation, your Clinique du Lac surgeon will take the time to listen to you. The aim of this initial consultation is to understand your needs, so that we can work with you to establish the best possible procedure protocol:

  • Stop smoking at least one month before surgery
  • Suspend all anticoagulant treatment at least 15 days before the operation
  • Stop taking the pill one month before the operation

Performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, surgery at Clinique du Lac lasts between 1 and 2.5 hours, depending on the incision techniques used. In the case of more extensive surgery, involving other cosmetic procedures and general anesthesia, an overnight hospital stay may be recommended.

Thigh lift surgery techniques

  • If the excess skin is spread over a wide area, the purely vertical technique is generally chosen. The plastic surgeon makes a vertical incision.
  • On the other hand, if the excess skin is longer, the pure horizontal technique is preferred. The incision is then horizontal.
  • Finally, the two approaches may be combined in what is known as the mixed technique. It combines two incisions: the future scar will then take on a T shape.

Once the incision has been made, your plastic surgeon resects the skin and closes it. The inner thigh is tightened and your figure reshaped.

As for the post-operative after-effects, post-operative pain associated with a thigh lift is moderate and soothed by painkillers, leaving only a sensation of soreness for 10 to 15 days. After the operation, the plastic surgeon recommends that patients wear a compression garment for three to six weeks. Complete healing after inner thigh surgery takes around two weeks. Finally, to see the final results, you need to wait around six months for the swelling to subside and the wound to heal.
