Dilated pores: definition
Pores are small openings on the skin's surface, connected to the sebaceous glands that produce sebum. They play an essential role in skin function, allowing sebum and sweat to escape. Their size varies from person to person.
Over time, and depending on certain factors, these openings can enlarge (hence "dilated pores"). This makes them more visible, which has a direct impact on the appearance of the skin.
Why do pores dilate?
Several factors contribute to pore enlargement.
Genetics
Pore size is partly determined by genetics. Some people are born with a predisposition to have more visible pores.
Excess sebum
Overproduction of sebum can clog pores, gradually stretching them. This often occurs in people with oily or combination skin.
Hormones
Hormonal fluctuations (puberty, pregnancy, menstrual cycle) can increase sebum production and accentuate pores.
Loss of skin elasticity
With age, the skin loses its natural elasticity, which also contributes to stretched pores.

The areas concerned
Enlarged pores are generally more visible in areas where the sebaceous glands are most active, namely :
- The nose
- Cheeks
- The front
- The chin
In short, the famous T zone.
What are the consequences?
Having dilated pores is not dangerous, but they can cause a number of inconveniences, both aesthetic and functional.
Dilated pores often give the skin a rough or grainy texture.
This phenomenon is particularly noticeable in areas with the most pores, such as the nose, cheeks and forehead.
Dilated pores tend to accumulate impurities such as sebum, dead cells and pollution residues more easily .
This encourages the appearance of blackheads or open comedones, making the skin even more uneven.
Clogged pores can encourage the development of new imperfections or accentuate existing ones (pimples, rashes), particularly in the case of oily or acne-prone skin.
The accumulation of sebum and dirt dulls the face.
Skin appears less luminous and more tired, even after cleansing.
Beautiful make-up starts with a good skincare routine.
When pores are dilated and the skin is unprepared, certain products can accumulate. The result: pores are even more visible, the complexion is uneven and can look cakey.
