What is breast lipofilling?

Developed around ten years ago, lipofilling aims to achieve moderate, natural breast augmentation, without the need for implants and therefore without the risk of rejection.

Lipofilling is a breast surgery procedure that increases breast volume by injecting fat taken from elsewhere on the body (hips, buttocks, stomach, etc.).

Breast lipofilling is intended to provide a moderate increase in breast shape, or to correct asymmetry. It is therefore not indicated if the patient is seeking a significant cup size increase (A to D, for example). In combination with liposuction of localized fat, lipofilling also helps to restructure the overall harmony of the silhouette.

Given its principle, lipofilling requires sufficient, available and harvestable fat. It is therefore not suitable for patients who are too thin.

Lipofilling: practical information

The advantage of fat transfer for breast augmentation is that it combines breast volume enhancement and treatment of localized fat deposits in a single procedure. Lipofilling differs from the fitting of breast implants. It requires no implants, leaves barely visible scars, and the post-operative period is shorter.

Breast lipofilling: objectives and principles

The lipofilling procedure takes place in 2 stages. First, the plastic surgeon performs liposuction to remove fat from a specific part of the body (e.g. buttocks or abdomen). Then, after treatment, he injects intact cells from the fat removed into the breasts.

The procedure involves the injection of fat cells to correct breast hypoplasia, i.e. insufficient breast volume in relation to morphology. Hypoplasia can occur immediately (small breasts since puberty) or secondarily, following significant weight loss or pregnancy followed by breast-feeding.

This technique of breast augmentation by fat injection is also sometimes recommended as part of reconstructive surgery, following a mastectomy or lumpectomy.

During an initial appointment, the Clinique du Lac practitioner will carry out a general assessment of the patient's state of health and motivations, to determine feasibility. After examination and discussion, he or she will draw up a precise, personalized estimate.

As this fatty breast augmentation procedure is affected by weight variations, it is preferable to postpone the procedure if dieting or pregnancy are envisaged.

Once the date of the operation has been set, an appointment with the anaesthetist is scheduled 15 days beforehand.

As before any surgical procedure, we recommend that you refrain from smoking to avoid affecting blood circulation.

This type of procedure lasts around 2 hours. It is performed under general anaesthetic on an outpatient basis. The patient is discharged from the Clinique du Lac on the same day as the operation.

First, the plastic surgeon performs liposuction to remove fatty tissue. Most often, the fat is removed from the abdomen, love handles or inner thighs.

The fat is then processed using a centrifugation process.

Finally, the fat cells are reinjected into the breasts. Using very fine cannulas, the plastic surgeon injects the fat cells in different places and at different depths. The aim is to achieve a uniform result.

At Clinique du Lac, the price of breast lipofilling starts from €4,000. A customized estimate is given to the patient after the appointment with the plastic surgeon.
