What is umbilicoplasty?
Today, the belly button is increasingly visible, thanks to fashion trends (crop tops, gym bras...) and social networks. In fact, it is often the navel that determines the aesthetic beauty of the tummy as a whole. The shape or size of the navel can create embarrassment or even a complex. So much so that some people are afraid to show their belly, to go to the beach or to wear certain clothes.
A simple surgical procedure, umbilicoplasty, can reshape the size and shape of your navel, and even rejuvenate it. The result: an umbilicus that's aesthetically in harmony with the body, helping both men and women to feel better.
The shape of the umbilicus is diverse and varied. What's more, it can change over the course of a lifetime, following events such as laparoscopy, pregnancy or hernia. If the appearance of the navel is unsuitable, and no amount of physical activity can change it, plastic surgery should be considered.

Aesthetic navel surgery: practical information
When umbilicoplasty is considered for aesthetic reasons, the aim is to retract an overly protuberant umbilicus, reduce its size or give it a more horizontal rather than vertical orientation.
In the case of umbilicoplasty for umbilical hernia, the surgeon checks whether the digestive organs are involved. If this is the case, the plastic surgeon intervenes in consultation with the digestive surgeon.
Umbilicoplasty can also be performed in conjunction with abdominoplasty (full tummy tuck).
Navel surgery: before the operation
As with all surgical procedures, a pre-operative assessment is carried out beforehand. The surgeon explains to the patient the type of operation chosen and the procedures to be performed. A consultation with an anaesthetist is scheduled two weeks before the operation.
On the day of the operation, the patient should take a full shower, concentrating on the navel area, rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean towel. Avoid applying deodorant, body cream or perfume.
Umbilicoplasty: type of anesthesia and hospitalization conditions
This surgical procedure is performed under local anesthetic and sedation, on an outpatient basis. The patient can return home the same day.
Post-operative follow-up is straightforward: simply remove the sutures two weeks after the operation. During this consultation, the surgeon checks that the wound is healing properly.

Navel surgery: the procedure
The plastic surgeon will remove the excess skin and attach the umbilicus to the abdominal muscle to reshape it, improving its size and shape, as agreed with the patient.
Physical activity and bathing can be resumed from 4 weeks after the operation, when healing is complete.
